Understanding solid wood floors

A solid wood floor is a natural product.
A natural product will always adjust to its local environment.

Installation Considerations
During transport and storage, hardwoods can accumulate moisture or even become too dry.
Never unload or store in the rain or other wet conditions.

Only have a wood floor delivered to site once all windows and doors are installed and all masonry, plastering and floors are completely dry. (Plaster and concrete have very high water contents).
Consider employing a skilled person to install your new wood floor.

To avoid problems, set the heating system to run normally, unpack the floor and store for at least a week in the room it is to be installed.

Allow 5% -10% over for end trimming and waste.
Plan for natural expansion and contraction, i.e. leave a 20mm gap at the wall edge for expansion, skirting boards will cover the joint.

Use narrower widths when possible. The wider the board, the greater the potential for gaps.

Wider boards (greater than 140mm face width) may need additional fixing, we recommend that these boards are fixed through the face. Ideally 'plugged and pelleted'.
It is not recommended to use underfloor heating under boards wider than 90mm.

Finishing guidelines
Your new wood floor may require light sanding after laying. Depending on personal taste almost any finish may be achieved.

Seal for stability with a proprietary finish coat.

Remember, a solid wood floor is a natural product.
Installed correctly a solid wood floor will last for generations.

Alternatively, choose a pre-finished, engineered/laminate floor if you require a plastic like appearance, an effect that may not wear as well.

Please Note
When delivery is made on our own vehicles they will be 'Curtain sided' commercial vehicles. These are up to 14' high, it is therefore important that there are no height restrictions preventing the vehicle from arriving at your property.

Being a 'Curtain sided' vehicle there is no lifting equipment on board, it is therefore essential that the driver has assistance in offloading.
